Game 1 - Saturday 10am vs Baytown Knights Black
The Heat's final weekend was back in H-town with game 1 against the Baytown Knights Black. In true Heat-hitting fashion, we would score quickly including the double shots by Tyler McCloskey, Trey Rummel, Bryce Brandl, Dylan Patin and Tyler Vaughan. Nate Malloy shut the Knights down allowing only one hit and striking out six through five innings. Heat win 9-1.
Game 2 - Sat 12pm vs Columbia Angels White
Game 2 was almost a carbon copy of game 1 with some more doubles banged out by Mitchell Matulia and Tyler Vaughan along with a whole bunch of singles up and down the line up. Nick Pryzbl controlled the defense, giving up only 4 hits and striking out 6 through 7 innings. Heat take this one 7-0.
Game 3 - Sun 12pm vs Texas Cyclones Blue
The Heat went into Sunday's semi-final game as the 1 seed from Pool I to face the Texas Cyclones Blue from Pool II. The first four innings was a pitchers duel with a total of only 4 hits between both teams. Pierce Pontikes only allowed two runs through five innings. At the middle of the 5th, the Heat were behind 1-2. The inning started with Beau Wells being hit by a pitch and that was all we needed. Several hits and fielding errors later and the Heat were on top 6-2. Bryce Brandl came in and closed it out in the top of the 6th - enough said. Heat win 6-2.
Game 4 - Sun 2pm vs Columbia Angels Grey
Game 1 pool play - Thurs 12:30pm vs Austin Wings Red
The Houston Heat faced the Austin Wings in game 1 of pool play in steamy San Antonio. Adam Oller and Trey Rummel had the hot bats with both going 3 for 3 at the plate in this one, including a double by Oller. Bryce Brandl also knocked a double and the Heat's offense pieced together 5 runs. Pierce Pontikes was the man on the mound and put in another quality start through six innings. The Wings tried to threaten with a comeback in the bottom of the seventh but the Heat held on and get the 5-4 win.
Game 2 pool play - Thurs 4:30pm vs FW Cats
Game 2 against the Fort Worth Cats was another squeaker. The offense put the Heat in the driver seat including a triple smash by Mitchell Matulia and a double shot by Tyler Vaughan. The Heat held the lead with Iron Arm Bryce Brandl on the hill and at the end of six we were up 3-2. Oh but the heartbreak that is baseball - the Cats scored 2 in the bottom of that last inning and took the win with a final score of 3-4.
Game 3 pool play - Fri 4pm vs Columbia Angels Blue
Game 3 was a tough one for the Heat who had to try to overcome a rough 2nd inning in which the Angels scored 7 runs. The Heat love to hit and put together a bunch including a triple rip by Dylan Patin. There was even a top ten defensive play of the week by Tyler Vaughan who back hand-gloved a ball up the middle and shuttle passed it behind his back to Dakota Parsons at short for the out. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough to get back those runs, though and the Heat lose this one 5-9.
Consolation game 1 - Sat 12pm vs Baytown Knights
The two losses in pool play put the Heat in the consolation bracket for Saturday and game 1 was against the Baytown Knights. The Heat bats did their thing with doubles banged out by Dakota Parsons and Andrew Mealey and a triple blasted out to center by Dylan Patin. Adam Oller took control on defense and gave up only 5 hits through seven innings. Heat win 8-5.
Consolation game 2 - Sat 2pm vs South Texas Sliders
The final game was a slug fest against the South Texas Sliders. Including the doubles ripped by Tyler Vaughan, Justin Sebo and two by Dylan Patin, the Heat scored 11 runs through four innings. Unfortunately, the Sliders were just as fired up and would take this one in a final score of 11-13.
