Former Heat player and Kansas State pitcher A.J. Morris was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Year on May 19th as the All Big 12 honors were announced. Joining A.J. was teammate and former Heat player Carter Jurica who was named 2nd Team All Big 12.
Morris led all Big 12 pitchers in wins (12), ERA (1.61), innings pitched (100.2), was 2nd in complete games (4), and 3rd in opponents batting avg. (.203). Morris' 12 wins are the best in Kansas State history and rank 10th in Big 12 history. A.J.'s 13 wins for the season, including post season, ranks him second in the nation for wins this season.
A.J. was quick to give credit for his success this season to his teammates, especially longtime battery mate, Rob Vaughn. Rob has been catching A.J. since their days at Humble H.S. "I am very appreciative of the league's coaches for honoring me with this award." said Morris. "I wouldn't have this award without Rob Vaughn behind the plate and a great defense behind me. This is truly a team award."
Jurica was named 2nd Team All Big 12 by leading the Wildcats with a .366 avg. good enough for 3rd in the Big 12. Carter also finished the season ranked 3rd in stolen bases (21), 4th in hits (78), and 5th in both runs scored (57) and on-base percentage (.442).
The Heat organization congratulates A.J., Carter and their families on these outstanding accomplishments.
