Former Heat player Anthony Rendon made Conference USA history on May 19th when he became the first player in C-USA history to be named Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year in the same season. Anthony finished the season as the Conference leader in slugging percentage (.701), second in batting avg. (.383), and second in home runs (17), which is also a Rice Freshman record and the most by any Owl since 1999. Anthony has been named one of the 16 semifinalists for the 2009 Dick Howser Trophy which goes to the top college player in the nation. Anthony was also named Conference USA Tournament MVP and Louisville Slugger 3rd Team All-American.
Also receiving C-USA honors were Rick Hague, Chad Mozingo & Mike Ojala who were named 2nd Team C-USA while Diego Seastrunk makes C-USA All Tournament Team.
