Houston Heat alum, Joe Savery, opens the 2012 season in the Phillies big league camp against all odds. After being a 1st round draft pick out of Rice University in 2007, as a pitcher, Joe converted to 1st baseman in 2011 in an attempt to salvage his big league dream. Little did anybody know that fielding work with a minor league coach would lead Joe right to the big leagues, not as a 1st baseman but as a pitcher again.

Good luck Joe, from your Houston Heat family.
Our own Heat Black coach Tim Price, aka The Guru of Google aka The Wizzard of Wikipedia aka The Superman of the Search Engine, has come across an interesting factoid. Since 2004, 7 out of the last 8 Houston 5A MVP's have been Houston Heat Players. Only 2011's MVP did not play for the Heat. All of these players were also named to the All Greater Houston Team in thier senior year and the Heat players have been racking up All Greater Houston honors at an alarming rate. As has been the case for most of the last 6-7 years the Houston Heat has placed more players on the Houston Chronicle Preseason AGH team than any other select team in the area and this year is no different. The 2012 Houston Chronicle Pre Season AGH Team features 7 Heat players of the 16 that were selected for the team. The following is a list of the 5A MVP's since 2004 followed by the Heat players named to the 2012 Houston Chronicle Pre Season Team All Greater Houston Team.
